SYCOMOR PLANT

Supply as subcontractors (design of construction details, construction and assembly) for customer SOGIN

DESCRIPTION: Modular radioactive waste conditioning plant, called SICOMOR.

Sogin must proceed with the conditioning of streams of radioactive waste located on various sites.

The availability of an air conditioning system that can be installed on site, used for the conditioning campaign and then easily decontaminated, disassembled, transported to another site, and reused for another conditioning campaign, is preferable to the construction of a fixed plant on site.

To meet these needs, Sogin has developed the design of a modular radioactive waste conditioning plant, called SiCoMoR (Modular Conditioning System for Radioactive Waste).

The first use of the SiCoMoR plant is foreseen for the conditioning in cement matrix of the residues of the Wet Oxidation (WOT) treatment of the exhausted resins.

The plant in question is aimed at the conditioning in cement matrix of different types of waste (e.g. waste in water suspension, dry granular waste, etc.) directly at the sites where this waste has been produced or will be produced in the future.

The conditioning process consists in mixing together predefined quantities of waste and cement in order to immobilize the radionuclides in a cement matrix with appropriate mechanical and physical characteristics. The mix takes place directly in a cylindrical container (CC) with a disposable impeller (“in drum mixing and cementation”). The capacity of the CC will be 440 litres.

The system will be built in separate modules, which can be transported and assembled on site.
